    • 1). Review the topic you are speaking on and write notes using note cards to highlight important subjects and issues you will be covering in your speech. Getting an idea of the topics you are speaking about will allow you to prepare all areas of your speech.

    • 2). Write your speech entirely using paper or by typing it out. Highlight and bold the important headlines that help to separate your speech into sections. This will help you when planning your speech timing and to remember that you covered all of the issues you planned to.

    • 3). Practice in front of a mirror to view your presence when speaking and to also take note of your voice level. Use the mirror to visualize yourself speaking in front of an audience to help prepare you for a real crowd of people when giving your speech.

    • 4). Pause while speaking in between each topic you are covering to gather your thoughts and take a breath.

    • 5). Imagine that you are having an individual conversation with a single member of the audience rather than speaking to hundreds of people. This will help with easing any nervousness or anxiety you might feel while giving your speech.

    • 6). Practice giving your speech to a friend or family member (or multiple loved ones) before giving your actual presentation and speech in front of an audience. This will help to overcome problem areas of the speech and improve the overall flow of the presentation.
