How to Clean Corroded Barrels
- 1). Rinse the surface of the barrels before you start to clean the corrosion. If heavy dirt or grime is present, use a stiff scrubber to remove it.
- 2). Use sandpaper to sand the surface that is corroded. For light corrosion, hand-sanding can do the trick.
- 3). Remove the corrosion with a power sander if hand-sanding does not do the trick.
- 4). Remove tough areas of corrosion with sandblasting. Be careful, however, because too much sandblasting can warp the metal barrel.
- 5). Apply a chemical rust remover if all else fails. Brushing on black oxide and allowing it to sit on the surface can wear away the corrosion. Watch it carefully to ensure that it does not damage the metal surface. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
