Caitlin (Kate) Williams had practiced criminal law in Chicago and decided to move her practice to Phoenix, Arizona.
She had spent some time in the Phoenix area and thought that she would like to ease her workload and semi-retire to a nice easy living climate.
Well, it always looks good on paper! She started in Phoenix as a prosecutor in the county attorney's office.
After a time she decided that that was not for her so she opened her law practice up in her new digs.
What Kate creates is a laughable life between her friends where she lives and with the new employees she had hired to work with her.
They were characters but she figured that's what she needed.
The story starts with Kate getting an appointment at a hair salon to get her hair colored to a nicer shade-auburn sounded like what she wanted.
When her regular hair dresser, Michelle, was filled up, Kate had to take another one, Christopher, who was as gay as a pink balloon, but she reluctantly allowed Christopher to tackle her coloring.
When her hair turned out extremely red, she howled and stated she couldn't go out in public with that color flaming from her head.
She complained to Christopher and Michelle but no one had time to change her until the next day.
So Kate covered up her head as well as she could and from then on, things got very active and messy.
While in the beauty salon she heard conversations and discovered that Tuwanda, who was another customer, worked for Tangerine.
This eventually introduced Kate to Tangerine and Kate was hired to represent Tangerine's company as their lawyer.
Her former lawyer had just left and she needed a new lawyer to represent her and her "Care Bares" who actually were high-class call girls.
Each following day something occurred so Kate could not get her hair changed, mostly problems involving some characters kidnapping or chasing her when she got near the beauty salon.
She met many characters, most that were somehow connected somehow to Tangerine's business.
Tangerine had given Kate a thumb drive and told her to keep it safe no matter what happened since it contained very valuable information.
One of the characters was Larry, a homeless, stinking, dirty bum who conned Kate into representing him due to Kate being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Amidst chases involving cars and police, break-ins, guns pointed at her, kidnapping, and Bryan, a sheriff she was interested in, Kate was on a roller coaster ride for a few days.
She was still in her red hair dye job, except for an interrupted attempt at changing that failed and it turned pink.
Bryan had to be careful since his jurisdiction crossed over the Phoenix Police Department's area.
Ralph, Kate's dog, was in the story a lot making this hilarious story even better.
You will laugh, you will wonder who was good and who was bad, and you will always be entertained by all of Kate's friends, employees, her dog, the police, Tangerine's business and her employees, and Christopher interjecting his funny lifestyle.
If you enjoy mystery with light-hearted action thrown in, you will love this book.
