Your goal setting is a form of art if you do it properly, because of the amount of creativity involved with the process.
Good goal setters have clear defined statements and achievement points forming a very clear picture.
A bad goal setter has very vague statements and achievement points, which you guessed it, form a very abstract picture.
An artists painting has to form something, which is good to look at.
Even in abstract art, the artist has clear defined color and lines, and detail, which form the piece of artwork.
A goal setter needs to think of their goal as a picture, the more work and time they put into their goals making them clearer, the better quality their goals picture will become.
Because a goal is something you wish to achieve in a definite point in time.
You need to paint yourself clear, accurate real picture of your goal.
Sometimes you cannot write clear and accurate information about your goal, because of lack of knowledge and information about the goal.
This is quite normal for big, complicated goals.
Start the process and write about the goal as much as you can.
I call these processes, the goal painting process, as you go the detail of your goal will form.
If you find that you tend to write very abstract goals you need to set up a system for yourself.
The more you use your system; the clearer defined your goals become.
When I first started writing goals down and forming the total picture, I found that after a while my goal setting became more structured, more complex, and the goals in turn were more achievable.
Here are some of the things you need to do on your goal canvas.
  • What is the result you want?
  • When do you want it?
  • What is good about getting or doing this result?
  • How are you going to get the result?
  • Where are you going to get the result?
  • What resources do you need to get the result?
  • Can you actually achieve the result now, in the future, way in the future? Some goals you may need personal growth, and development to achieve the goal, and it may take a long time to do it.
Still, make a plan and set it out and you may cut back the time frame required to complete your goal, than not doing anything at all
  • What visual images are you using to focus yourself on the result?
  • What mind anchors that you got to anchor the result in your mind?
  • What's stoping you from getting the result and how are you going to get around it?
Goal setting is a complex process, but when you do it regularly everything get easy, and like all learned skills once you know how you never seem to forget and the process becomes automatic.
A good artist generally knows what they do well, and have their systems, colors and work templates for starting and completing their pictures; a good goal setter is the same.
I wish you every success on developing your goals.
