How can you tell if you are in a toxic relationship?  Does your partner

-  Criticize you publicly in front of other people.

-  Say they love you, when their actions display the contrary.

-  Reads your mail or check everything you do to control your life.

-  Wants you to be uniquely dependent on them.

Or have you changed the ways you behave to please them?

It is never very agreeable to frequent toxic people, yet many people find themselves in such relationships.  It is difficult to understand why people wish to stay with someone who is causing them persistent physical and emotional pain.

These relationships start like others with the period when you are deeply in love, and are then followed by a break up and a subsequent getting back together.   And the circle just goes on repeating itself.

At the start you do not see what is going on and suddenly it dawns on you that you are in a toxic relationship from which you don't know how to escape.

Many people in toxic relationships have seen it all before as they have grown up in toxic homes.  They naturally copy how their memories from childhood unintentionally as they likely know nothing better.    Some people find themselves having to care for others and there are others who just seem to enjoy being miserable.     

If this is happening to you, you should not forget that you have a choice.   Are you sure that you want to continue I relationship where you both have little respect for each other and spend your time being depressed?    

You are going to have to start by standing up for yourself as no doubt it is your toxic partner who is saying that you are the cause of all the problems.  When you have accept being treated like this it becomes more difficult to leave the relationship or try to insist on new conditions that will repair the situation.   Group counseling may help you renegotiate a better relationship or get out of it all together.  

It is possible, wit help, to overcome the cycles of a toxic relationship.  Many people leave and go on to create a new relationship elsewhere. You may be able to repair the relationship and stay with it.

Most relationships can be saved if the couple wants to renew their relationship in a healthy way.  .

You have to decide that you will break up if you cannot improve the present relationship.    You will free yourself from being dependent on your partner.   When you do this you will be freed from being dependent on your partner.  You will then be able to insist, in a polite but firm manner, on what you consider is necessary if the relationship is to continue.   Your partner knows that you will leave them if you don't get what you want.

A healthy relationship requires give and take on both sides; a toxic relationship is a one way alley.  You are perfectly capable of altering things if you want to.
