How to Prepare for Waxing

  • 1). Be sure the hair you want to have waxed has grown out ?- to ?-inch above the skin's surface. If too short, your hairs won't get caught far enough up into the wax to be successfully pulled out.

  • 2). Plan on being waxed every six weeks, for best results. Sooner than six weeks and hairs will not have had enough time to grow long.

  • 3). Avoid showering or soaking the hairs in water, for several hours before waxing. Water softens the hair shafts, making them less likely to adhere inside the wax. Tough hair is easier to wax off.

  • 4). Take a mild analgesic 30 to 60 minutes before the waxing. This will help decrease any discomfort caused by waxing.

  • 5). Use only reputable waxing salons. Make sure conditions there are clean and organized. It is possible to be burned if wax is applied too hot, so it is important that your waxing technician, called an aesthetician, has experience and common sense.

  • 6). Expect to pay $10 for brow waxing, $20 for bikini waxing, and $30 for lower-leg waxing.
