How to Fertilize Loblolly Pines
- 1). Apply a slow-release or natural fertilizer according to label directions on your loblolly pine at planting. Regular fertilizers may burn young pine tree roots.
- 2). Fertilize loblolly pines once a year when all danger of frost has passed and nighttime temperatures are above 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Apply 2 to 4 lbs. of an 8-8-8 or 10-10-10 per 100 square feet of bed from the second year onward. For single trees, use 2 cups of fertilizer per foot of limb spread.
- 3). Fertilize large loblolly pines with 2 lbs. of fertilizer for each inch of trunk diameter. Spread the fertilizer from 1 foot away from the trunk to the drip line.
