Directions for Splicing Wire Rope
- 1). Wrap electrical tape around the wire rope in the location where you wish to cut it.
- 2). Hold the wire rope on a flat surface and cut it just below the electrical tape with a side grinder. A clean straight cut is needed.
- 3). Turn back the rope to the length listed in the chart in the resource section. This length is specified by the diameter of the rope.
- 4). Insert the saddle in the looped end of the rope.
- 5). Wrap the first rope clamp around both wires about 1 inch from the cut end. Tighten each bolt until they are snug, and then torque them to the specification recommended in the resource chart.
- 6). Wrap the second clamp around both wire ropes, as close to the saddle as possible. Torque the two bolts to the recommended specification.
- 7). Install additional clamps evenly spaced between the first two clamps and torque their bolts to the correct pressure.
