What are NSE and BSE…..?   


The National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) is a Mumbai-based stock exchange. The National Stock Exchange is India's largest financial market. Established in 1992 NSE third in the world for transacted volume NSE has developed into a sophisticated, electronic market, 1343 companies listed as on 2010 at NSE. The National Stock Exchange of India was promoted by leading financial institutions at the behest of the Government of India, and was incorporated in November 1992 as a tax-paying company currently.

The Bombay Stock Exchange was established in 1875. There are around 4,800 Indian companies listed with the stock exchange. BSE's popular equity index - the SENSEX - is India's most widely tracked stock market benchmark index. BSE provides a host of other services to capital market participants including risk management, clearing, settlement, market data services and education. The BSE accounts for over two thirds of the total trading volume in the country. The exchange is also the oldest in Asia. He BSE Sense is a value-weighted index composed of 30 companies with the base April 1979 = 100. It has grown by more than four times from January 1990 till date. The set of companies in the index is essentially fixed. These companies account for around one-fifth of the market capitalization of the BSE.
