How Do I Correct Incorrect Information Provided on a VA Claim?
- 1). Call the VA at 800-827-1000 to determine the status of your claim. Even if there is an error, your claim may have been processed and approved. Follow the telephone prompts to access your claim information.
- 2). Determine where the wrong information came from. It could be a medical provider, administrator, former supervisor or even an error on your part.
- 3). Talk to the provider, such as the medical provider, who made the error, if it wasn't you. Discuss the error in detail and confirm the accurate information with supporting data if you have any.
- 4). Write a follow-up letter to the provider who made the error, summarizing the conversation and specifically requesting the updated information be sent to the VA. Send the letter to the provider and a copy to the VA. If the error is yours, such as a typo or incorrectly checked box, send a letter detailing the error directly to the VA.
- 5). Visit the local VA office near you and schedule an appointment to discuss your claim. While you can try to make the adjustments and changes over the phone, doing so in person helps make sure the right forms get to the right person more efficiently.
