Weekly Outlook December 10th-14th
Monday December 10th - Japan is to release its GDP data which of course is one of the main indicators of a country's economy. Australia is going to release its data on Home Loans which shows us the demand in the housing sector. This figure is also seen to act as a gauge for consumer confidence since consumers generally only take out loans when they feel confident they can pay it back.
Tuesday December 11th - The ZEW Institute of Economic Research will be releasing its index for German economic sentiment. This figure is said to provide a medium-term forecast for the German economy, the biggest in the Euro-zone. Australia will be showing its figures on business confidence which will be a strong indicator for the health of its economy. Another important release on Tuesday will be the US and Canada's trade balance data.
Wednesday December 12th - the UK will be publishing their official data on the unemployment rate and the change in the number of people employed. The US Federal Reserve is set to announce what the federal funds rates are, together with the bank's rate statement. This will also be followed by a press conference with Chairman Ben Bernanke.
Thursday December 13th - We will see Thursday Switzerland's economic forecast as well as its rate decision which is expected to remain the same as previously. The US will be announcing its data on retail sales which will give us an indication of consumer spending.
Friday December 14th - Japan's Tankan Large Manufacturers Outlook will publish its data, which measures future business expectations in Japan based on factors like profits and capital investment. We will also be seeing the euro-zone's data on services and manufacturing activity, as well as the report for consumer inflation. The week will end with a release of the US's consumer price index, industrial and manufacturing production and capacity utilization.
