First Birthday Girl Themes

A 1-year-old girl learns a lot about the world through her visual sense. Excite her visually by creating a cheerful birthday with primary colors -- red, yellow and blue. Alternatively, you may want to go with a classic pink-themed party for your little girl. Decorate the room with crepe paper and balloons out of her reach (they are a choking hazard if used as toys), and supply paper plates in your color of choice to complete a simple birthday party. - One-year-old girls love to dance. In fact, studies have shown that babies smile more when they dance along to the beat of the music. Play your daughter's favorite music and have her entertain guests with her dancing moves. If she is shy, have the group join her so everyone is grooving to the music. Consider a ballet theme for the birthday cake and room decorations. A tiara and tutu provide a photo opportunity for her baby book.

Perhaps you already notice that your child always reaches for a favorite teddy bear or stuffed penguin. Make her first year celebration even more personal by designing her birthday party around her favorite stuffed animal. You and your guests can point and talk with the birthday girl about her favorite animal and repeat the sounds it makes. Expand on her favorite animal for a general animal theme. If she adores her stuffed lamb, add a horse, cow and pig for a farm-themed birthday. Animal themes build on your child's existing knowledge. - Reading to your child stimulates the brain and facilitates language learning. Select a few simple books that your child already likes, or even new ones you think she will especially enjoy. At 12 months, your child is learning her first words, so include books that contain words she can try to imitate. Use durable books made of board to ensure that she will not soil the pages. Direct interaction between your guests and your birthday girl by requesting your guest read and play with her using the books.
