Gays, Religion & Sports

Disclaimer: I have never been gay. I am not currently gay and I will, by all means necessary wake up in the morning still a bona-fide straight man. I am only affirming my position and my desire to live as I see fit and not an attempt to cast any doubt or judgment upon others approach to living their own lives.

In the past, without being politically correct; I have had some opinions on the subject of man's desire to use his body for whatever he desire to use it for. Either for drugs, alcohol, tobacco, prostitution and sexual orientation or preference. But upon further review, I have come to the conclusion that we are all sinners. No one is immune from sin. And according to the author of my faith, judgment should only be reserved for the one who hath no sin. At least for believers, that was why He offered these words "He who hath no sin, to cast the first stone" as a genuine guideline for personal observations against another being. In 2011, it stills hold truth to its original value. My change of heart about this subject stems from the fact that I know that we all have bad vices.

GAYS:
For years now, identifying a man as gay either on the job or in the neighborhood could lead to total annihilation from his work environments, associates, and friends and in some ways, from family members. Fast forward to 2011, being gay is no longer the taboo it used to be. In fact, openly gay men occupy top public and private offices in the land. Gays can be found in both chambers of Congress among our legislators; there are gay mayors in major cities as well as in the management levels in most fortune 500 companies. Chances are that my next door neighbor is gay and holds a powerful position where he works. Considering these facts, the closet should be emptied by now. This of course is in reference to the early 1980's when coming out to declare to the world that one is gay was classified as "coming out of the closet".

This article is not an attempt to come up with solution to cure gay men as if it were a disease as some have insinuated. Neither is it intended to convince anyone to accept the gay community. It is rather to call us all into action as to what is really important in our society. I am sure that there are those who would prefer to have a form of human slavery as being an acceptable form of cheap labor than to tolerate the existence of gays in our society. Think about that for a minute. The justification that human slavery is acceptable while being gay is not. What could be the foundation for this line of thought? Is it the Bible? I hope not! Could it be prejudice? Could it be hatred? Mean spirited? Perhaps, could it be idiosyncrasies that are passed on from generations to generations of ignorant parents? We would never know the correct answer. One thing is certain, it's not of God. Its origin is self-centered, coded and vile.

So, where do we draw the line between what's right and what's wrong?  When in our society, there are those who would prefer the abolition of all civil rights if it comes to choosing between gays and civil rights and keep the gays flourishing. Getting rid of the least of two evils is very easy to do when both of the options are source of irritants. Meaning they will accept gays until something else pricks there interest to compare and fight against. There are those who will prefer that a man be imprisoned for years because of perceived crime against animals while fighting to safe the life of a convicted murderer. So, its obvious that these positions are not really what they appeared to be on the surface. It can be classified as "self preservation". Actions are always set up to intertwine with religion - particularly; the Bible.

Most actions are preference by words like "Because the Bible says". Yeap!...I know what the Bible says. The same Bible also says many things that portion of our society tends to underscore as meaningless when it affects their self preservation, finances or if it might bring a form of acknowledgment of wrong doing either for a past or current error.Didn't the Bible also say these things: love your neighbor as yourself, thou shall not covet, thou shall not steal, thou shall not kill, thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor, still, etc. etc.

RELIGION
The most difficult segment of the population is the politician who usually comes begging for our votes every two, four and six years when the election cycle comes around. One of the most powerful politicians in the land is an openly gay Congressman from one of the Northeastern States. And he has held his position for many years despite the fact that the state he represents is the base of a major religious organization.

To this day, the measuring stick that society uses to judge others is still the Holy Bible. Even those who consider themselves atheists and agnostics use the same criteria when pointing fingers at the faults of others. Thinking about this article, I refresh my memory about things that has happened around me in the past ten or so years. The hypocrisy of leaders within the government from openly Christian Governors who abandoned their wives and families in search of foreign pleasure, another political leader recently forced to resign because he coveted the spouse of his friend and alleged to have made a large payoff. A few years back, the same political leader was the main lynchpin who worked tirelessly by seeking an indictment against a sitting president for an alleged affair of his own.  It's like living in a glass house and stepping out to throw stones at others.

The hypocrisy of some of the so called ethical leaders in our public office is mind-boggling. Utilizing religion to advance their personal goals while holding everyone‘s else to such higher standards.  Same man under the umbrella of his faith and moralities, was the most vocal voice in an attempt to impeach a sitting President for an alleged sexual impropriety. This same politician is now banned from the halls of Senate because he seduced a friend's wife and was alleged to have paid the family with hush money which technically violated campaign finance laws. What that shows is that no one is clean. If we dig, we will find. It's just less digging going on these days except for partisan digging.

Even in the Churches, a man of God revered all across the nation was recently accused of sleeping with young men within the Church placed in his care to mentor and minister to for their salvation. I must say to avoid any legal entanglement that these were allegations so far. One can go on and on with these hypocrisies of the modern time. Let's not forget the kettle calling the pot black. The alcoholic person thinking its okay to be a drunk but it's not okay for a neighbor to smoke his menthol and vice-versa. The cocaine addict that thinks he's better than the guy who freebase crack on a pipe. The pole dancer in Buckhead that thinks she is far better than the prostitute on Bankhead Highway. This is the new order. The new order of "self effacing superiority complex and do as I say not as I do."

Throughout the Bible, one can find valuable lessons in why not to pass judgment on others, the importance of forgiveness, meekness and humility, nonetheless; people continue to utilize the Bible as a tool to support their various personal agenda.

In modern times, from internet bloggers to fake television news outlet, from failed politicians to political constituents organized against prosperity for a particular segment of the society, everyone seems ready to cast the very first stone. So, why should I be any different? I would not be human if I do anything away from the norm. As a matter of fact, it would not be my reality. That is the reality that says I am better than everyone, because they are sinners and I am not. So, please pardon me as I explore some vital issues of our times.

Since it's no longer a taboo to be referenced as gay in 2011, why do we still have strong, muscular, high prized athletes hiding behind the shadows as gays in our communities? Athletes do not need our votes; they only need one thing from us: the almighty dollar. I for one have given it many times, voluntarily; I might add, out of lack in order to satisfy my un-conscionable appetite for pure unadulterated fun and violence we called sports.

SPORTS:
Ever wonder why gay pro-athletes seldom declare that they are gay? Perhaps; there are two levels of gayness. This could account for the reason why because most pro-athletes operates under the shadow because they are uncomfortable in the position real gay men relish which includes femininity, vocals and participating in public events without an attempt to hide one's identity. This can be considered as top level gayness while the second tier would be pro-athletes who displays the aura of invincibility on and off the playing field with exceptionally strong physical prowess and countless of adoring fans includes women, men and children.  With these, comes the pressure of embarrassment if the word ever got out that such a man is gay.

Because hardly any professional ball players ever make a public declaration of his gayness, it's safe to assume that most of them are probably, really never gay. They just like the presence of other men which could be another way of letting out their physical aggression off the playing field. Something likes a lion hunting for fun to display his awesome power over animals of prey.

The thought of these two levels have opened my eyes and get me on the verge of believing that there might truly be those who are "naturally born gays" and those who just enjoyed the company of another man because of exposure to this lifestyle while young or because of other un-identified reasons within their functionality. As a result, the NBG's [naturally born gays] should not have to make any apology for who they are and I think the rest of us should just accept that fact and move on as there are enough vices to along in each of us. No vice is superior to another. Vice is vice and we must realize that we cannot cover for God as he has everything I his control. If there is punishment, He and He alone would mete out the appropriate portions to anyone deserving.

The closet gays are what I called HTD [High Testosterone Disorder] for those who are not really gay because [1] they are highly embarrassed to acknowledge that they are gay. [2] They never possessed nor displayed the traits associated with being gay and [3] they tend to play both sides of the fence such as – may be married, multiple girlfriends and hardly associated with known gays.  Just like have a convenience in anything one desires but shying away from the notoriety such convenience might bring publicly. To be continued

P/S: This article was written and saved as a draft in 2011. Of course so much have changed since then. Nonetheless, I decided to go ahead and publish it in its entirety without making any single change. Later this year, I will folow up with my newly evolved position if any. On purpose, I decided NOT TO EVEN READ THIS ARTICLE AGAIN before publishing so as not to be influenced by current events.
