September 11, 2001 was a dark day in American history. Four separate attacks were launched against the United States by Al-Qaeda terrorists. Two commercial airplanes were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center in New York; one commercial plane was hijacked and flown into the Pentagon in Virginia; a third was hijacked and crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. The third was believed to have been in route to either the White House or the Capitol in Washington D.C.

These attacks killed 2,977 victims and resulted in the deaths of 19 hijackers. The World Trade Center's Twin Towers and two other WTC buildings were destroyed and several buildings were damaged in the attacks.

Each year on September 11th, people all over the United States remember the day with events and memorials, paying tribute to victims of the attacks. Here are the 9/11 events planned in the Memphis area for the current year. If you know of an event that is not listed, please let me know.
