There are a few variations of Skåne's traditional apple cake; some people make it simply with apple sauce, while others alternate layers of apple sauce, as I have here, with chopped apples. I like the contrasting textures that adding the chopped apples provides, but the cake lends itself to experimentation - it's great using applesauce only, and might well be phenomenal if one substituted homemade apple butter for all or part of the applesauce.
