Let's begin...
Gathering The Supplies
Before you start any project it is easiest to gather together all of the supplies. For this project you will need:
- Pair of Jeans - You can also do this on jean jackets and other denim clothing.
- Simply Spray Stencil Paint
- Simply Spray Stencil or Cardboard to Make Your Own
- Spray Adhesive
- Masking Tape
- Paper Towels
- Newspaper
Preparing Your Work Surface
Cover your work surface with newspaper to protect it. Lay your jeans so the area you want to stencil is flat on the newspaper.
Prepare Your Stencil
If you are using a Simply Spray stencil, punch out the letters. If you want, create your own stencils using cardboard.
Using the Spray Adhesive
Coat the side of the stencil that will be against the jeans using spray adhesive, making sure you spray the edges well.
Adhering the Stencil to the Jeans
Position the stencil on the jeans, glue side down. Once you have it where you want it, press down firmly, making sure all the edges are stuck down well so no paint seeps underneath.
Covering Your Pair of Jeans
I also taped newspaper down on the edge of the stencil so that if the paint splattered (which it did), the rest of my pair of jeans would be protected.
Spray Down the Base Coat
I used a white textured base coat available from Simply Spray . It was pretty thick so you may want to practice spraying it on a scrap pieces of paper or fabric first. You may also want to try Simply Spray's glitter paint. Let your base coat set up following the directions that came with your paint.
You do not have to spray down a base coat. Experiment with some scrap fabric to see what colors and textures you like best.
Of course, you can leave your design plain white if you like, or you can add more color. I added pink which mixed a little with the white because I did not wait for it to set up enough, but I really liked the mixed, textured effect it gave!
Once you are done adding color and your paint has set just a little, carefully pull up the stencil. It should easily peel right up. Let your new designer jeans dry completely and then wear it with pride.
