How to Hang a Shower Valve
- 1). Turn off the water supply to the bathroom.
- 2). Place a towel over the drain in your shower to keep anything from accidentally falling into the drain as you replace the valve.
- 3). Pop the cap off the end of the shower knob using a screwdriver, if applicable.
- 4). Unfasten the retaining screw holding the knob on the shower valve with a screwdriver. Pull the knob off the valve.
- 5). Remove the old escutcheon plate by taking off the retaining ring holding it in place, using a wrench.
- 6). Grasp the exposed valve with a wrench and turn it counterclockwise until it comes free from the water line in the wall.
- 1). Wrap thread seal tape around the threads on the new shower valve and insert it into the water line, turning it clockwise by hand. Tighten the new valve into place with a wrench.
- 2). Place the new escutcheon plate over the stem protruding from the wall. Tighten the retaining ring to hold it in place, fitting it tight against the wall.
- 3). Put the knob over the valve and against the escutcheon plate and fasten it securely in place with a retaining screw, using a screwdriver.
- 4). Pop the cap onto the end of the knob. Remove the towel over the drain and turn the water supply back on to test the new valve.
