    Salt, Baking Soda and Vinegar

    • 1). Mix 1/4 cup of table salt with 1/2 cup of baking soda.

    • 2). Insert a funnel into the sink drain. Pour the dry mixture down into the drain carefully.

    • 3). Heat 1 cup of white vinegar on the stove top.

    • 4). Pour the vinegar down the sink drain. The drain may bubble due to the reaction between the vinegar with baking soda.

    • 5). Run hot water down the sink drain for one to two minutes.

    Chlorine Bleach

    • 1). Dilute 1/2 cup of chlorine bleach with 1/2 cup of water.

    • 2). Pour the solution down the sink drain carefully to prevent the bleach from splashing.

    • 3). Let the bleach solution rest in the drain for one hour.

    • 4). Run cold water down the drain for two to three minutes.

    Mineral Oil

    • 1). Run the water for one to two minutes in the sink that smells. Sinks that are rarely used tend to have dry traps that allow odors to come up through the sewer line.

    • 2). Pour 2 tablespoons of mineral oil into the drain. Mineral oil prevents the water from evaporating so the sink trap does not dry out completely.

    • 3). Run the water and add the mineral oil monthly to prevent the water from evaporating.
