Cooking When Camping
There is something fun about cooking when you are camping.
Sure, it's not as simple as turning the oven on back home, but you can still cook most of the food that you would have at home, it just takes a bit longer.
Today, you can purchase some very high quality cooking gear for camping which makes life a lot easier.
You can purchase little ovens, very powerful gas stoves and just better designed equipment.
It can be a bit of a pain trying to get things perfect when camping, but you just have to make the best of everything.
For those who really want to try something different, cooking on a fire is a lot of fun.
If you have a big fire you are best off digging a small hole and moving a bunch of red hot coals across, so you don't burn your food or hurt yourself from getting so close to the heat.
A decent bunch of coals will last for a long time, and can be used to cook anything from roasts through to damper.
The thing with cooking on a fire is that you need good cooking gear.
If you put a poor quality cooking plate on the fire or a cheap kettle you could easily damage them.
The best pots are solid and don't go black when you heat them up.
For the simplest cooking when camping though, a good portable cooker (butane or propane) is best, along with a reasonable set of cooking utensils.
A good Portable Cooker will last you for years to come, and although it might cost a bit more at the start I can guarantee it will pay itself off over the years.
These stoves are just as powerful as the ones most people have at home, so you shouldn't have an issue with cooking.
I have found that even an average meal when camping tastes much better than it would at home anyway!
