marriott.com - For those who will never put out to sea on a ship, a stay at the Queen Mary in Long Beach is almost as good. The Queen Mary is known in nautical circles as one of the most ornate and luxurious ships to ever sail. Entering service in 1929, the ship made its last voyage in 1967 and has been a hotel in Long Beach since 1993. Featuring 365 renovated staterooms, the accommodations are a little smaller than a traditional hotel, but no mainland hotel can capture the feeling of this grand old floating palace. Staterooms offer single kings or double twins, with the family suite offering double queens. The Queen Mary offers windowless inside staterooms, as well as royalty suites offering a private living space and separate bedroom. Some of these suites have entertained history's greatest heroes, such as Winston Churchill. Several restaurants are located on the ship and several more are nearby on land. More than a hotel, the ship is open as a museum and special tour rates are available to hotel guests.
