- 1). Unscrew the top from the can of joint compound. Dip a small brush into the can, so that the brush is covered on all sides with compound.
- 2). Run the brush all around the thread on the end of the pipe, following the run of the thread. Insert the brush into the compound can as many times as needed, to cover the entire thread on all sides of the pipe.
- 3). Run the brush across (perpendicular to) the threads on all sides of the pipe, to make sure all thread grooves are covered with compound. Screw the top back onto the compound can.
