Do it Yourself T Shirt Design
- Off-the-shoulder shirt
Purchase a fitted T-shirt with a plain-banded round neck in the color and print of your choice. With sharp sewing scissors, cut the hemmed band from the bottom of the shirt. Cut the band into four even pieces and set aside. Beginning at the left shoulder seam at the top of the shirt, cut a slight U shape across the top of the shirt, ending at the right shoulder seam on the opposite side. You have created a large opening in the top of your shirt. Put on shirt and pull the sleeves down off your shoulder. The shirt will be loose. With sewing pins, mark the spots for your straps by finding the point where your shoulder bone and collarbone meet. Remove your shirt. Take your bottom band pieces and sew one to each of your marked points on the front of your shirt with a 1-inch wide seam. Sew straps to the corresponding points on the back of the shirt. Put on your shirt and tie your straps over your shoulders. - Rock-star shirt
Select a plain, single-color shirt. At your local craft store, purchase different sized star-shaped stencils, fabric glue, silver glitter and a fabric marker. Lay your shirt on a flat surface and begin drawing stars on your shirt using your stencil and fabric marker. Fill the area on the first star with your fabric glue and sprinkle enough glitter to cover the entire star. Use your fingers to push the glitter into the tips of the stars and around the edges. Fill all of your drawn stars. Allow to sit for an hour. Carefully lift the shirt and deposit the extra glitter into a bowl or other receptor to save. Turn shirt over and repeat the process. Washing may remove some of the glitter, requiring reapplication. - Choose a light-colored cotton shirt. Purchase one package of fabric dye in your favorite color and a bag of plain rubber bands. Dissolve your dye in a 5-gallon bucket of hot water. Lay your shirt on a flat surface face up. Pinch the very middle of the shirt with two fingers and wrap a rubber band tightly around the material just below your fingers. Pull up more material of the shirt under the rubber band until two fingers width fit under the rubber band on the shirt. Place a rubber band tightly at that point. Continue in this fashion until you cannot grab more material without grabbing the side seams. Gently dunk your shirt in your dye and stir. Remove the shirt and allow it to dry. When dry, rinse your shirt under running water until the water runs clear. Allow to dry, and then remove your rubber bands.
