What Is Lobelia Germination?
- Lobelia requires part shade once it is grown. It is used as a container plant or as an edging plant. Lobelia require light to germinate and can be planted directly into a place suitable for their later growth.
- The soil for a lobelia should remain cool and moist. A fine grade peat mix is suggested to keep the soil loose. The soil should be just on the acidic side. The same soil requirements will help with germinating directly in the garden or starting indoors.
- Lobelia should be sewn after the threat of frost is past. They do not need cold stratification to germinate. These seeds only require surface sewing. The seeds need light to germinate.
- Lobelia germinate in 10 to 75 days with most plants being visible in 21 days.
- Germinating lobelia indoors or in a greenhouse allows earlier blooming. They should be surface sewn in pots and kept in a lit area or in a greenhouse. The soil needs to be light with a good mix of peat. The flowers will be ready to transplant into the ground in 8 to 12 weeks.
