Preventing stretch mark scars during pregnancy is a hard thing to do, and it's the last thing you want to worry about when you're going through such an exciting and new time in your life.
Luckily, it is possible to prevent stretch mark scars if you follow these 4 easy steps, because while can be hard, it's not impossible.
Step 1: Drink lots of water.
At least 8 glasses per day.
It's important for your whole body to stay hydrated, your skin included.
If you're dehydrated, so is your skin, and dehydrated skin is more susceptible to stretch marks.
Step 2: Eat a healthy diet.
This one should go without saying, because it's very important for you and your baby that you eat a diet rich in vitamins and nutrients for proper development.
Additionally, eating a diet rich in vitamins and minerals (plenty of calcium, protein, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables) will help keep you skin healthy and prevent stretch marks from occurring.
Step 3: Follow your doctors guidelines for gradual weight gain.
The number one reason women get stretch marks during pregnancy is because of extremely fast weight gain.
This is because the cause of stretch marks is the underlying tissue growing faster than the skin layers covering it, creating scar tissues.
So gaining weight gradually following your doctor's plan will decrease stretch marks.
Step 4: Moisturize often with "stretch mark cream.
"
Using a cream rich in ingredients that promote collagen and elastin in epidermis will help increase the strength and elasticity of your skin, and decrease the appearance of any pregnancy scars.
Look for a cream with all natural ingredients that is designed with pregnant women in mind.
As an alternative, you can use cocoa butter, almond oil, or shea butter as alternatives.
Make sure to apply 2-3 times per day in any areas susceptible to stretching.
The key thing to remember to prevent stretch marks while you're pregnant is to start a regimen and stick to it.
The earlier you start the better chance you have of avoiding them, and if you follow all the steps to a tee, you may be pleasantly surprised to find that you end up with no pregnancy stretch marks at all! Good luck!
