Prepare Again For Recycled Fashion
For quite a while now, it has seemed that style and fashion in general have accepted a rather eclectic look. Women have been wearing clothing styles the past few years that are reminiscent of various generations-from the 1980s with tight, high-wasted jeans, leggings, and neon colored tops, to the 1950s and 60s, with "preppy" looks that appear classic, timeless, smart and sophisticated. And to compliment most clothing choices, accessories that young women are finding in their mothers and grandmothers collections are consistently becoming more popular each year.
With this trend in mind, it is not that surprising that this year has featured many looks made popular in the 1970s. Some of the most fashionable jean designers have begun making (or re-making) flared jeans that have an unmistakable bell-bottom look. Many of the dresses coming back into style are made of satin-type fabrics that are reminiscent of "dirty dancing" and disco. Jackets with cargo pockets that appear straight out of the Vietnam era are absolutely in style. These are just a few of the trends you are likely to see this year.
Why is it that it seems that fashion over the past decade seems to borrow heavily from the not-so distant past? Although to many this seems to be the case in all areas of fashion and style, this trend is hardly unique to the time we live in. For hundreds of years many of the current "vogue" fashions are simply re-cycled looks brought back into style. That is not to say that some looks are not completely unique to an era: it is unlikely that many women prior to the 1920s were "bobbing" their hair, or that women prior to the 1950s were wearing hoop skirts with quite the same look. In other words, although fashion may be cyclical, each look that is brought back, including those popular this year, come back with a new and distinctive twist.
