4 Things You Can Do to Stay in Shape - I Do Them All

Staying in shape is tough.
Especially if you work, have a family, and maybe even travel for business.
It is so easy to have good intentions but fall off the fitness bandwagon only to crawl back on 6 months and 20 pounds later.
Here are 4 things I do when I can to stay in shape.
1) Walking.
Walking is great exercise, although it does take more time than many other forms as it's relatively low impact.
I often walk my dog, walk to the store, walk with my kids, and I'll even park a few blocks away from where I'm going on a nice day and walk.
Last week, while stuck in an airport for a couple of extra hours due to flight delays, I'll bet I walked at least 5 miles! And when I was in the hotel and not quite up to a vigorous workout after a long day, I watched the news while walking slowly on a treadmill; it was much better than no exercise! 2) Running.
I have a love hate relationship with running.
I won't run for months claiming I hate it, then I'll start up again.
Running is a great way to pack a lot of exercise into a short period of time, and you can run almost anywhere.
I keep a pair of running shoes handy for when the mood strikes me.
3) Biking.
I loved to bike when I was a kid and I've found I still love to bike.
Whether it's 1/2 a mile to grandma's house with the kids, 8 miles to the ice cream shop, one of my favorite trips, or even 18 1/2 miles to work very occasionally, it's great exercise and fun.
You can even bike inside on an exercise bike, my wife's favorite, although not my first choice.
Unfortunately it snows in New Hampshire so I only manage to bike about 8 months a year practically.
4) Stair climbing.
There are stair climber machines that many people love and that give you a great workout, but I prefer real stairs.
I climb the 5 floors to my biggest clients office often, and will occasionally climb 20+ flights when I'm traveling and staying high in a hotel.
I try to do this at least once a week if traveling and staying in a high rise.
It's a great workout! These are four things I do to stay in shape that I enjoy.
There are many other activities so just pick ones you enjoy and go at it! You body and your mind will thank you!
