Instructions for Correct Posture

    • 1). Sit with your tummy tucked in. Your hips should touch the base of the couch, chair or bed and your back should be flat against the back of the seating option. If you are working on a computer, sit in the proper form and give adequate space between your hands and the keyboard or mouse. You arms and hand should be fully extended and not cramped. Keep your shoulders down rather than up to avoid neck or shoulder pain.

    • 2). Stand straight with your stomach tucked in and taught. Align your body by evenly distributing your weight on both feet and keeping your chin level with the ground. Relax your arms at your sides. Roll your shoulders back. Avoid bending down from the waist when you pick up things or clean the floor. Sit or squat while doing these activities. This will prevent backaches.

    • 3). Avoid sleeping or resting on a couch. The surface of the couch may be soft and comfortable for your back, but it is not a solid flat surface for your neck and back. Always rest or sleep on a bed, preferably on a firm mattress. Do not watch TV while lying on the couch. This can put a strain on your neck and the entire body.
