How to Prevent Mold Fungus
- 1). Ventilate damp rooms. Rooms like the bathroom and kitchen need ventilating to let out excess moisture. Open windows and use dehumidifiers to keep the air circulating.
- 2). Wipe down moisture when you notice it collecting. Do not allow water to build up. Use clean towels to wipe and dry the shower, walls, sinks and doors.
- 3). Use mold-killing products to wash down areas that commonly become wet. Wash down bathroom tiles, shower curtains, sinks and surfaces that get wet during normal use. If you do not have a mold remover, use hydrogen peroxide to treat the areas.
- 4). Wash wet clothes in the washing machine. Do not allow wet clothes to sit out too long or they will begin to form mold.
- 5). Fix any leaks in your home. Leaks from pipes or other areas in your home will cause any surrounding objects to become wet, leading to mold growth. Hire a plumber or professional to fix these leaks or have a home inspector check for leaks.
- 6). Place air conditioners and dehumidifiers in basements. In hot climates this will keep the area dry, cool and less likely to harbor mold.
- 7). Sit molded objects outside when you clean them. Books, furniture and other household items need to be cleaned outside to prevent spreading mold spores throughout your home.
