Word Will Not Open in a Full-Type Screen in Office 2007
- Full-screen typing mode is ideal for composing without distraction, but Word will not open with this mode active. While previous versions of the software had a full-screen option accessible from the menu or a keyboard shortcut, Word 2007 only has options for a full-screen reading mode that does not allow typing. To access full-screen typing, users must add a custom toolbar button or a custom keyboard shortcut.
- Click the drop-down arrow to the right of the Quick Access Toolbar, next to the Microsoft Office button. Select "More Commands" from the list. In the "Choose commands from" drop down menu, select "Commands Not in the Ribbon." Scroll down and select "Toggle Full Screen View," and click "Add" to place the command in the frame on the right. Click "OK" to save the changes. Click the new button in the Quick Access Toolbar to instantly enter full-screen mode with typing enabled. Press "Escape" to return to normal viewing.
- Click on the Quick Access Toolbar drop-down menu and choose the "More Commands" option. Click the "Customize" button listed after "Keyboard shortcuts." Scroll down in the Categories box and select "All Commands." Scroll down in the Commands box and click on "ToggleFull." Click in the "Press new shortcut key" and press the keyboard shortcut you wish to use to enter and exit full-screen typing. Click "Assign." Note that you may cause a shortcut conflict if you choose a keystroke or keystroke combination that already has another assignment.
- In previous versions of Word, the full-type mode was available in the menu by default. Access it in Word 2003 and earlier by clicking on the "View" drop-down menu and choosing "Full Screen." Older versions also have a built-in keyboard shortcut. Press "Alt" and "V" and then "U" to enter full-screen typing. In Word 2007, this shortcut opens the full-screen reading mode, without typing enabled.
