Excel 2007 Won't Convert Text to Numbers

1). Start Excel and then open the Excel spreadsheet that contains the text you want to convert to numbers.
2). Select the cells that contain the data which Excels thinks is text. Click "Cells" located on the "Format" menu.
3). Click "General" under "Category" on the "Number" tab.
4). Click "OK." If Excel 2007 did not convert text to numbers, go to the next step.
5). Retype the numbers in the cells. If Excel 2007 did not convert text to numbers, go to the next step.
6). Click "Options" on the "Tools" menu and then click the "Edit directly in cell" on the "Edit" tab if it is not already selected.
7). Click "OK" and then double-click the cell that you want to change the text to number format.
8). Press "Enter."
