2nd Saturday has long been a big deal in Sacramento, and from painted canvases to welded art, there is certainly plenty to see in Sacramento this month.

The Adamson Gallery

Located on Fair Oaks Blvd in Sacramento, the Adamson Gallery is currently featuring art focused on the love of animals. Colleen Adamson, who lost her job several years ago, decided to take a leap of faith and combine her two loves – animals and art.

Many of her shows double as fundraisers where proceeds go toward various local animal causes. The current January exhibit includes barnyard feathered friends, honeybees, horses and more. The quaint studio just moved into a new location and participates in 2nd Saturday Art Walk.

Red Dot Gallery

The Red Dot Gallery is starting a new monthly showcase called Human Voice: the Narrative in Art. Featured January artists are Laura Caron, Amber Massey and Molly Knorr. The goal is to fuse the work of the three artists into one gallery, showing how they share a common thread in their creative work.

Gallery 2110

Many different exhibits exist within the Gallery 2110 art complex including Laurie Hopkins in Studio 12, Black River Photography in Studio 14, and Cinecrown in Studio 15. Altogether, there are currently 13 different artists on display in Sacramento.  Hopkins uses color as a focal point, with her canvases displaying vibrant displays of places and people. Cinecrown is owned by Martin Vo, who tells stories through his special event photography.

Black River snaps shots of Northern California’s finest people, structures and wildlife. They combine modern methods with traditional techniques for bold and sharp photos that look gorgeous on display.

Elliott Fouts Gallery

Currently on display are the acrylic creations of Megan Aline, along with the modern frescos of Ali Cavanaugh. Leigh-Anne Eagerton is currently exhibiting various series of fruit via oil painting on canvas, while Teresa N. Fischer’s oil paintings are created on panel and represent eclectic, modern viewpoints.

En Em Space

En Em Space is currently featuring their “Sugar Rush” collection through January 17. All artists on display have sweet displays of everything from dessert painted on canvas to more lifelike three-dimensional mediums.

Zanzibar Gallery

Every month the Zanzibar Tribal Art Gallery highlights an area, art form, people or culture group that brings both awareness and education to all who view it. They also have special sneak peek events for customers.

Integrate Sacramento Services

Every 2nd Saturday, their exhibit focuses on a key component of immigration and seeing Sacramento residents “without borders.”

B. Sakata Garo

A reception is being held on January 10 for the “Airplane Show” featuring many local artists including Tom Bills, Jerry Barrish, Irving Marcus, William T. Wiley, Gale Wagner and many more.

Kennedy Gallery

The Kennedy Gallery is showing an exhibit called “Fabulous Nudes” during the month of January. This L Street gallery is located in an old Victorian house in downtown Sacramento, giving it a sweet vibe to go with its edgy galleries.

Capital Artworks

The 4th annual “Small Works” is currently on display, including over 50 pieces of self-described “intimate and evocative” paintings, drawings and sculptures by local artists. All work must be less than twelve inches in size to be on display and many artists are participating.

Alex Bult Gallery

Sam Hernandez will be on display January 8-February 7 with an opening night reception on 1/10. He is a sculptor mostly known for his work out of wood. His free-standing creations are stunning to admire, and allow plenty of room for interpretation.

Gallery 14

Nestled in Tahoe Park, this newer gallery is an exciting place where artists are showcased together in creative themes. January will bring some second Saturday contributions unlike those you’ll see in midtown/downtown.

Almost all of the galleries around Sacramento have a regular “Call to Artists” as they change exhibits. Check their individual websites for ideas on how to get involved, as well as submission guidelines. While not all artists can be selected for a gallery, many are and part of the Sacramento culture is to showcase and celebrate local up-and-comers.
