    Picture Book Float

    • Encourage reading and literacy by crafting a float designed after your troop members' favorite picture book. Select a whimsical tale from which you can re-create a scene with materials at your disposal and within your budget. For example, if you selected the book "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie," you could create a float featuring a kitchen scene along with a mouse re-creation, a table and a cookie jar. Place the title of the book and the author on the float to ensure that there is no confusion. If your troop has enough funding, work out an arrangement with a book retailer and obtain copies of the featured book to hand out to children in the crowd.

    "Girls Can..." Skill Float

    • Make your Girl Scout float girl power-themed by create a "Girls Can..." float for your next parade. Engage your troop members in research, asking them to locate information on women pioneers in science and industry, such as Marie Curie. Divide your troop members into groups and ask each one to create a scene to feature on the float highlighting its selected innovator. Have girls embody these powerful women to show everyone just how much women can accomplish.

    Wilderness Adventure Float

    • If your Girl Scouts enjoy time in the great out doors, reflect this passion on your parade float by crafting a "wilderness adventure" parade feature. To create this float, transform your float flatbed into a wooded lot using paper trees, grass and dirt. Select girls to dress in hiking gear and act out a scene showing forest exploration. Give the parade viewers plastic compasses or another thematically-appropriate prizes in place of the standard candy.

    Girls Through History

    • Make your float a lesson in history by crafting a "girls through history" parade display. Divide your Girl Scouts into groups and assign each a different time period on which to focus. Ask your girls to gather information on what the typical life of a girl would look like in that period. Instruct troop members to craft costumes that look similar to clothing in their time periods. Line up your Girl Scouts on your float in chronological order, allowing viewers to see just how much times have changed.
