How to Make a Star With Spikes
- 1). Cut a piece of wood that's 1.5 feet by 1.5 feet. Plywood or other thin pieces of lumber work best. The wood provides a backing for the spike star.
- 2). Finish the wood with paint or stain and allow it to dry overnight.
- 3). Use two railroad spikes to form a wide "V" with the thick head of the spikes forming the point. The heads should be in the center of the board. Hold the spikes in place with staple nails, a U-shaped wire nail. Hammer the nails into the wood base.
- 4). Form an upside-down wide "V" directly beneath the right-side up "V" and hammer staple nails over the spike to secure.
- 5). Finish the star by placing one spike in the center of the right-side up "V" to form the point. Attach with staple nails.
- 6). Attach a saw-tooth picture hook to the back of the wood to mount the spike star on the wall.
