If you are a dollar store owner who takes advantage of the opportunity to purchase mixed loads of cheap wholesale products for your store, the question often arises about what to do next.
After all, liquidation and closeout companies frequently ship these items mixed together in totes.
There are no individual cartons for each different product included.
Rather, they are just randomly mixed into one big box for shipment to your dollar store business.
In this article I review steps to receive, sort and display these products.
Done correctly you find these items help build sales and profits for your store.
As the cheap wholesale products begin to arrive at your dollar store business be sure to keep the totes quarantined until you can complete the receiving and sorting process.
It is important to have an accurate count of the various items and the final total quantity of saleable products included in the order.
Once you do begin sorting and counting the process goes very quickly.
If possible have either large cartons (One per department.
) or better yet, oversized shopping/stocking carts arranged by department.
These should be arranged in a circle around the totes being received.
1.
Remove each item from the tote.
Inspect the item and packaging for damage and salability.
If the item passes, place in the cart or carton for the appropriate department.
Then move to the next item.
Remember to keep a tally of the items as they are removed.
2.
A very small number of these items will be damaged due to shop wear or the packing/shipping process.
Remove these products and isolate them from the saleable items.
They can be designated to become giveaway products, sample items for store displays, or in some cases destroyed.
3.
A number of the products will be one of a kind...
use a dump bin to mix these products together.
Label the bin 'CLOSE OUT' - and sell them at low, low prices to get people really excited when they come into your store.
(Remember; these are cheap wholesale products - but product quality will be good.
) You could also sell these one of a kind products for 50% off of the lowest price marked and make even more profit for your dollar store business.
4.
Once the initial sorting and counting is completed you often find extra large quantities of a few items.
Target these as end caps (one-time purchase end caps).
Make sure to label the end cap as 'one-time purchase' or 'limited quantity' to help attract shopper attention.
5.
The balance of the merchandise goes on display with the regular products throughout your dollar store business.
