Designer Ways to Arrange Decorative Throw Pillows on a Bed
- Opt for a single, rectangular throw pillow in a coordinating print or solid for a streamlined traditional look. Stack your bed pillows against the headboard so that they are standing straight up with two pillows on each side. Center the throw pillow lengthwise between the two sets of pillows, also standing straight up. Mix solids, stripes and florals in the same two colors for the most traditional look.
If your style is more polished, stack the bed pillows as above but pick up two matching throw pillows instead of a single pillow. Stack one throw pillow directly in front of each of the standing bed pillows. - Choose two or more rectangular pillows in a graphic print. Pile your bed pillows flat on your bed at its head, stacking them neatly on top of each other. Stack throw pillows on top on each side of pillows, starting with the largest throw pillows and centering them on top of each other as you pile. Add one throw pillow to each side or several; just keep the same number and size pillow on each side to keep the look consistent.
- Choose pillows in a variety of coordinating prints and shapes. Prop your bed pillows loosely against the headboard---they should slump against it rather than standing up straight---and casually arrange the throw pillows so that they are leaning against the larger pillows. Angle one or two pillows at a 45-degree angle so that their pointed edges stand up like a triangle. Turn some pillows so that they stand up tall and others so they lie low. Add a round pillow to mix things up. Don't think too much about what you're doing---this look works best when it's spontaneously created.
