NEVER MIND THE ADVERT, WHAT"S THE GUARANTEE

We have reached that time of the year again when some golfer's thoughts turn to hibernation. For others it is time to consider the elements and how they are going to make sure that they enjoy their golf when temperatures drop, the wind increases, the rain is never far away and the ground is so much softer.

Umbrellas are easy to think about. Waterproofs? Obvious. Windbreakers, a sensible idea. But I am amazed at how few golfers think about their feet. In the drier summer months when the ground is hard and firm then lightweight, very breathable, cushioned comfort are all high priority features. Now as we approach winter, waterproofing and traction become much more important.

I am asked all the time now about leather vs synthetics. My response starts with the guarantee that the manufacturer offers. Marketing hype is one thing, the commitment about how dry your feet will stay is another.

What is true is that the advances in the technology behind synthetics have improved the combination of comfort and waterproofing. That enables Adidas to provide golf shoes that are both highly waterproof AND highly breathable ensuring your feet stay dry AND cool (but not cold).

World leading technology innovation from a British company.
These innovations include leather treatments to improve water resistance, make the inner breathable, ensure white shoes stay white, reduce the likelihood of foot odour and increase suppleness with improved resilience.

These innovations have spurred on the Leather industry to find different ways to treat leather to improve all round performance.

Footjoy DryJoys come with ECL™ or "Extreme Comfort Leather". This is a new proprietary waterproofing system developed with Pittards® of England. It is a membrane-free leather with a 1-year waterproof warranty. This leather is also 30% softer than previous generation FootJoy performance leather providing improved comfort along with drier feet.

But let me repeat; don't look at the glamour pages in golf magazines. Check the level of waterproofing covered and the length of guarantee. And then check out the experiences of other golfers in the club - testimonials from other members are under-valued - or come and ask me which shoes I would recommend for your winter golf.
