    General Information

    • The RV sites for most of the state parks are available for groups and families. Most are usually right next to the beach or on an overlooking bluff. Labor Day weekend and Fourth of July weekend are usually booked, and most of the parks will be full. However, reservations can be made up to seven months in advance through Reserve America by calling (800) 444-7275.

    Dockweiler State Beach

    • Dockweiler State Beach is one of the few state parks in Southern California where RV campers can set up right along the beach literally just a few footsteps from the sand. With over three miles of shoreline, this is the only RV campground in Los Angeles County. It has full hookups, including a picnic table and barbecue at each site. A 22-mile bicycle trail connects the park to Redondo Beach Pier, Venice and Santa Monica beaches and Marina del Rey. It's also close via the freeway to Disneyland, Universal Studios and the Getty Museum.

    Emma Wood State Beach

    • Emma Wood State Beach is a favorite spot for swimming and surfing because of its moderate ocean temperatures. Park your RV only feet from the beach. Camping is offered only to self-contained vehicles; no water, restrooms, electricity, fire rings or phones or dump stations are available. There are 90 campsites, which for the most part aren't level. RVs are limited to 45 feet due to the ability to turn around on the narrow road. The beach has crumbling World War II artillery relics and grassy spots. The nearest dump station is 15 miles away at McGrath State Beach. Emma Wood State Beach is located west of Ventura.

    Silver Strand State Beach

    • Silver Strand State Beach has beaches on both the Pacific Ocean and the San Diego Bay. The beaches are often covered with moonsnails, conch shells and an occasional sand dollar along the beach. Perch, corbina, grunion and yellow-fin croaker are among the common catch for fisherman. There are 133 RV campsites.

Tips for RV Camping on the Beach in California

    • Campers should heed these tips: the early bird generally gets the best campsite; wear comfortable shoes; bring a pair of polypropylene long johns, even in summer. Pull them on if you get cold in the middle of the night; and dress in multiple layers.
