DIY Siding Wash
- By combining vinegar and baking soda together with a small amount of hot water, you are creating an all-natural cleanser that won't harm your lawn or your siding. When baking soda and vinegar combine, they produce an effervescent chemical reaction that will lift away just about any stain you may have on your siding. Vinegar will also kill and remove algae. Apply the mixture and allow it to sit for five to 10 minutes before scrubbing with a scrub brush and rinsing with a hose to leave your siding naturally clean.
- Simple laundry detergent will do wonders for your siding, especially if you use one with a bleach alternative. Mix a few cups of detergent in a bucket with hot water and use to scrub your siding. When using detergent you may cause a bit of damage to the grass around your home, but nothing major. Rinse the siding well and also spray the grass to dissolve the strength of the chemicals in the detergent.
- Vinyl floor cleaners such as Mr. Clean or Pine-Sol will make a strong cleanser for siding when mixed with hot water (2 parts water to 1 part cleaner). To add a little extra kick to this mixture, add one cup of vinegar to help kill any mold, mildew or algae that is growing on the siding. Again be sure to rinse well and also to spray the grass around the house.
