    • 1). Place the elodea plant sprigs into a bottle that has two openings that will accept the gas sensors. Add distilled water to a level that it will not spill out or touch the sensors when they are placed in the bottle.

    • 2). Insert the oxygen and carbon dioxide sensors into the bottle. Connect the sensors to the computer and begin taking readings of both gases.

    • 3). Turn on the grow light or desk lamp and have it shine directly on the bottle once initial readings are measured. Have the computer take readings every one to five seconds for both gases. Continue taking data for roughly five minutes.

    • 4). Plot the data on a graph that shows oxygen levels over time and carbon dioxide levels over time. Have your students discuss the results openly.
