Nature Activities For Tent Camping

Are you a parent who wants to instill in his/her child a love for the Great Outdoors? One of the best ways to do this is through regularly planned tent camping experiences.
Here are some easy activities that may help improve your child's love of nature while on a tent camping trip.
1.
Very popular in the education world is the keeping of a nature journal.
This need not be anything elaborate.
Bring along a simple spiral notebook with colored pencils and just encourage your child to draw what they see and label it if you can.
Even for the child who dislikes writing, this type of journaling can be freeing because little actual writing needs to be done.
If you don't know what the flower or bird is, simply ask around.
Many tent campers are well informed and love to share their knowledge with others especially an interested little one.
2.
Allowing your child to make small collections is a great way to encourage young kids to love nature and learn about it.
Bring along a small box or Ziploc to keep these treasures safe and keep the family wall tent free of debris.
I know our boys love little rocks and can name some of the types of rocks they have collected.
Collections can also include bark rubbings or leaf rubbings made by laying a piece of paper on top of the item and rubbing a crayon over top.
The texture and shape of the object will appear on the page.
This type of collection will at least be cleaner and your wall tent will remain neater.
Make sure your not removing items that are not allowed by the park and therefore be breaking the rules of the campground.
3.
Taking time to share observations of things they saw or heard or thought over the campfire or before bedtime in the cabin tent.
No right or wrong answers here.
The more the kids talk about the experience of tent camping, the more they will associate good feelings and family memories with being outdoors together by the camping tent or under the canopy.
4.
Make sure you practice good habits by "leaving no trace" and caring for plants and animals.
You will be teaching your child what it is to be a good steward of the earth.
5.
Have fun.
Eat good food cooked over the open fire.
Draw one another out while relaxing around the fire.
Bring up fun memories.
Tell stories as you fall asleep in your cabin tent or wall tent.
These, most of all, will instill in your child a love of the Great Outdoors and encourage them to take your grandkids tent camping.
