The N"Awlins Air Show in Belle Chasse
2012 NOTICE - No Belle Chasse-New Orleans Air Show:
There is no N'Awlins Air Show (New Orleans Air Show) planned by the Navy for Belle Chasse in 2012.
However, the Blue Angels will perform during Navy Week New Orleans in April 2012, with exciting shows over Lake Ponchartrain for the first time.
Navy Week New Orleans 2012 kicks off a big three-year celebration in United States of the anniversaries of the War of 1812 and the Star Spangled Banner.
UPDATE: As you know by now, the much anticipated Blue Angels Air Show over Lake Ponchatrain was cancelled due to high winds on both days. So unless you caught one of the practice sessions, you may not get to see any Navy Air Show antics in New Orleans this year since there is no 2012 Belle Chasse Show. If I hear of any new Air Show plans, I'll post them. The N'Awlins Air Show in Belle Chasse is also known as the New Orleans Air Show for people who do not speak "Yat". The exciting and noisy sky show is a popular annual event held at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, the Navy base, in Belle Chasse. And it is free!
There is also plenty of free parking at this free event. To get there, drive down Belle Chasse highway until you see the jet at the entrance to the naval base - a Blue Angel Jet is pernamently displayed at the entrance - and turn right.
Just look up on the way, you may see some of the flying machines before you even get there. You may also hear them. They are loud! Consider bringing ear plugs if a day of loud jets might be too much noise for you.
The exciting 2011 Belle Chasse air show will feature the Jet Demonstration Team of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and the Freefall Demonstrations Teams from the U.S. Army Golden Knights and Special Operations Command Black Daggers. Also expect to see the Air Force Red Bull Edge 540 and Helicopter, and much more such as the Jan Collmer Airshow and the Max Adrenaline Team.
Aside from the excitement in the sky, all of the armed forces will have aircraft displays along some civilian aircraft. The day also provides a rare opportunity to see the insides of the secured Navy base.
Keep in mind: The event is held on a military base, so everyone is subject to search and confiscated items won't be returned.
The following no-no's are banned from the event: weapons of any kind, backpacks, coolers, cans, glass, alcohol, pets, tents, bicycles, roller blades, skates, skateboards, and cooking equipment.
Also note that the scheduled participating aircraft from the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland could change due to military tasking or missions.
