How to Color a Cheap Wig
- 1). Purchase a package of regular hair dye intended for human hair. Remember that hair dye typically turns out darker on wigs, and purchase a shade lighter than you usually would.
- 2). Mix the hair dye according to the directions on the package.
- 3). Saturate the wig thoroughly with water.
- 4). Put the wig on top a wig form, hanging naturally.
- 5). Brush the dye through the wig rather than rubbing it in by hand, to avoid damaging the wig.
- 6). Reapply color when necessary, as dye fades with time, even on wigs.
- 1). Fill a container with a pint and a half of warm water.
- 2). Slowly add acrylic paint to the water, stirring as you do. You can add different colors at this point to mix the paint and achieve a custom color.
- 3). Stop adding paint when the mixture thickens to a soft, flexible plastic-like consistency.
- 4). Brush the paint mixture through the wig with your hairbrush.
- 5). Comb the wig as you go, making sure the strands aren't stuck together because of the paint.
- 6). Wait three to four hours for the wig to dry, occasionally combing through it. Longer wigs may take more time to dry, while shorter ones may dry more quickly.
- 7). Using cold water, rinse the wig off.
