How to Install Cedar Impressions
- 1). Use a chalk line to draw a level line around the house. Install either the starter strip that came with the siding or a J-channel to receive the first panel.
- 2). Create a straight edge on the right side of the first panel by cutting off sections that hang over. Depending on the type of Cedar Impressions you are using, the piece you will need to cut off will be between 2 inches and 4 inches wide. Refer to the product's instructions for the correct amount. There is also an indicator on the siding itself.
- 3). Hang the first panel. Standard installation requires that the first piece be hung ¼ inch from the corner. However, if you will be installing CertainTeed's mitered corner posts, the first piece should 3 inches from the corner. Lock the siding panel into the starter strip or J-channel, starting at the right side and moving to the left.
- 4). Start fastening the first panel to the substrate by nailing a nail through the round hole at the center of the panel. Nail at least five more nails into the panel, including one at each end. Cedar Impressions siding has markings where the manufacturer recommends nails be placed.
- 5). Hold the next panel against the wall so that its bottom is below the starter strip. Push in and up so that it locks into the starter strip and the side tabs of the first panel. Refer to the temperature indicator lines on the panel to space the second and following panels.
- 6). Nail the second panel into place, again starting at the round center hole and using at least five more nails. Follow this procedure for the remaining panels of the first course. When you reach the corner, cut the last piece so that its edge is ¼ inch from the corner for standard installation or 3 inches from the corner if using CertainTeed's mitered corner posts
- 1). Cut between 23 ½ and 30 inches off the right side of the second course's first panel so that it lines up with the first course correctly. The amount you need to cut off will depend on which Cedar Impressions product you are using. There is an indicator on the siding to assist you, as well as instructions in the literature.
- 2). Drill a 3/16-inch hole at the center of the panel's nail hem, and start nailing there. Or, place two nails in the pre-fabricated nail slot nearest the center. Place at last five additional nails in the nail hem, including one at each end.
- 3). Position the next panel below the first. Push in and up to lock it into the side tabs. Refer to the temperature indicator lines for placement, and nail the panel into place starting at the center. Continue adding courses, alternating the amount you cut off the right side per the product's instructions and the indicators on the siding.
- 4). Attach the top course by installing a cornice receiver at the the top of the wall. Trim the panels of the top course to within ¼ inch of the cornice receiver. Use a nail punch to punch holes ¼ inch from the cut edge of the panel at 16-inch intervals. Drive a nail into each hole.
