How to Maintain Moonshine Yarrow
- 1). Plant your Moonshine yarrow in full sun. Even slight shade inhibits flowering. Yarrows are extremely tolerant of soil conditions but must have good drainage.
- 2). Divide yarrows every two or three years to keep the plants vigorous and to control spreading. Moonshine is not as aggressive as other yarrows but does need room to spread out. Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart.
- 3). Stake Moonshine only if it's growing in a windy spot. Moonshine is more compact and self-supporting than many other yarrow cultivars.
- 4). Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage rebloom. It's normal for the flowers to get smaller as the season progresses.
- 5). Water yarrow only during extended droughts and only if the plants droop. Yarrows are drought-tolerant and are ideal plants for xeriscaping.
- 6). Fertilize Moonshine lightly in the spring only. Over-fertilization causes the plants to become leggy and encourages vegetative growth instead of flowers.
