Tree Pruning - Is Your Tree Dead?

Another beautiful  spring has come, and you're enjoying the foliage that only Spring time  can provide.
After viewing the trees around your house, you stop suddenly - there's one tree that seems like it's just not going to blossom this year.
Worried, you pick up the phone to call the local arborist to get the tree torn down before it becomes a hazard from infestation, severe winds or storms.
Before you move another inch towards the phone, you'll need to verify for certain that your tree is dead - and that's going to take another year before you call the experts in to tear the tree down.
Not sure how to tell if a tree is finally dead, or what tiny symptoms might indicate that it's ready to come back to life? Not to worry - we've got the ultimate tips on how to tell if your Southern Idaho tree is dead, or just taking a bit of a vacation! 1.
Is the tree just late in blossoming? Are there any noticeable buds on the branches? If not, go examine the tree more closely, as a harsh winter might have just stunted the tree's growth for a year or so.
If there's no sign of budding, move on to the next step.
2.
Break off a small branch from the tree.
Does the branch snap right off, or did you have to bend it for it to finally break? Look at the inside of the tree - is it mostly dry and cracked, or does it seem to have some moisture? A dead tree's branches will come right off due to the dryness and rot inside of the tree; so if your tree still puts up a fight, let it be.
3.
If you had a bit of trouble breaking off the branch, rest assured that your tree is not dead - it just needs a whole lot of TLC.
Water and fertilize your tree throughout the spring and summer, and be sure to mulch it before another winter strikes.
Your tree should perk right up in the coming year.
If, however, you've watered and fertilized your tree to no avail, then it's time to make that call to a professional landscaper who can tear down your tree.
Be sure to take care of your trees in the future, as nothing is more beautiful as a Southern Idaho tree in full bloom! For more articles on tree trimming and pruning visit our website and check out our new book "How to care for your tree's" - a free download.
