Frugal Living Topic - The Local Thrift Store
Frugal living is something that many people are trying to do today, either by choice or by force.
If you are considering either buying or selling at a consignment or thrift store, below are some useful tips that I hope will come in handy.
(I go into further detail on my blog about these topics).
If You Are Buying o Don't Shop on Saturday - This is often the busiest day of the week for the store for both picking up and dropping off.
o Know What NOT to buy - You will almost always see child car seats in your local thrift store.
While the prices are tempting, you never want to buy a used car seat.
You never know if it has been in a crash or not.
o You Are Not Alone - Many people shop at thrift store that are frugal.
You can run up on some great deals.
For example, I bought a pair of Nike Shock shoes (they sell for $98 in the store) for $27.
50 the other day and you can't even tell they have been worn.
I love them! If You Are Selling o Sell items in season- To have better success selling items for a higher price, sell the items that are in season.
Else you will be selling that nice winter coat in July for $5 when you could get $25 for it in November.
o Setting the price - Determine what price you would be willing to take for the item.
If you don't think you could get that at the thrift store, it might be better in a consignment or yard sale.
o What to Yard Sale and what to send to Consignment oCheck out the store - You most likely have more than one thrift store in your area.
I would suggest that you check out the stores and see which ones gives you the best feeling.
Which is doing the most business? Does one seem to have nicer stuff in it than the other? You want to pick a store that has the most traffic to increase your odds of getting a better price.
Frugal living is quickly becoming something I enjoy.
It is a huge learning curve and the price for failure is steep, but it can be fun at times.
