How to Make Reed Diffuser Oil

    • 1). Choose a good, all-around base substance for a reed diffuser, such as plain, unscented mineral oil in a light grade. You can find mineral oil in most drug stores and pharmacies. Baby oil, which is just scented mineral oil, can also be used, but can sometimes produce odd results when combined with the fragrance. If you prefer a more natural oil base, use safflower oil. This is odorless, lightweight cooking oil that will not overpower the fragrance.

    • 2). Select a fragrance to mix with the oil to create the diffuser blend. If you enjoy natural scents, look for essential oils, such as lavender or peppermint, or flower extracts, such as rose water. Look for these in the aromatherapy section of a health food store. If you enjoy a more perfumed scent, use perfume, cologne or even body splash. Create custom fragrance blends by mixing one or two drops from different sources.

    • 3). Pour 1 cup of the oil base into a small glass bowl. Add two drops of your selected fragrance, or fragrance blend, and stir gently with a wooden spoon. Allow the mixture to blend for a few minutes, and then smell it to test the strength of the scent. Continue adding fragrance a drop or two at a time until you reach a fragrance level you like. If the fragrance you've selected is oil-based, add a few drops of vodka to thin out the mixture and enhance diffusion.
