Information About Effexor Medicine
- Do not take Effexor with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI), such as Nardil, Parnate or Marpan.
- Discontinue Effexor only under the advice of a physician. Tapering off the medication is the only acceptable way to discontinue it.
- Seratonin Syndrome is life-threatening and caused by taking Effexor with medicine used for migraine headaches, lithium, St. John's wort (an herb) and tryptophan supplements.
- Sometimes antidepressants such as Effexor cause depression to worsen. Report any occurrence of this to the doctor. Higher blood pressure, dizziness, sweating, nausea, decreased sexual desire and weight gain are other possible side effects of Effexor.
- Effexor is unsafe for children. Do not drink alcohol with Effexor. Pregnant women in the third trimester should not take Effexor without a doctor's permission.
- Tell the doctor who prescribes Effexor about other drugs, medical conditions, and even vitamins and minerals, as combinations of them with Effexor may cause severe conditions.
