Listening and speaking to people all the time, one thing I hear again and again when coaching is: "I know that.
I know.
I know how to do that.
I know.
I know.
" Well, here's what they don't know: There's KNOWING and then there's DOING.
And above all else, coaching is done NOT on Knowing, but on Doing.
Recollect any experience you may have had in extra curriculum activities in high school or college, whether athletics, acting or chess playing, where you were coached.
Consider these questions: When did you receive your feedback and criticism? Was it while you were sitting around discussing theory or immediately after you ran plays or rehearsed scenes or settled for a draw at the tournament? You see, there's KNOWING and then there's DOING and it is not the knowing that a Performer or athlete wants to get critiqued on, it's the DOING.
The Performance.
An acting coach must see the actor act in order to mine for emotion, mood and character motivation.
Any athletic coach must see the team or individual athlete run plays whether in practice or in a real competition to assess the level of play and commitment and to decide who/what/when to play.
So let's talk business: Any coach worth his or her salt is dedicated to taking the performer from where that person is to where that person has declared the desire to be.
That is why in English we use the same word to describe a person as well as a vehicle.
Indeed when it's working, the person serves as a vehicle to deliver the performer to the desired destination.
In my own experiences with coaches in my business, it was impressed upon me to use PARQ, an acronym for

It is upon Results and Performance that one is paid, in athletics, the arts or business.
