The death of a much-loved husband and father, after 41 years of marriage, in the early hours of the morning left us all numb and totally bereft by his passing.
Our four children and their respective families quickly stepped up and took over the myriad of duties that the sudden passing required.
The sympathy of friends, the cards and flowers flowed into our home before the beautiful memorial service to a wonderful man.
After a few days, everyone went back to their lives, and time moves on as it always does when you are not involved with the day-to-day minutiae of grief or grieving.
Slowly and painfully, our children moved back into their own routine.
Still providing support for their mother as only families grieving together can.
The days passed, the flowers slowly died and life started to become a semblance of normality.
Work resumed and to all intents and purposes, everything went back to normal...
almost.
Three months later, playing on the computer one evening and enjoying some music, I was startled to hear a voice emanating from where the printer sits on the desk.
Speaking in a mechanical tone the sound of a voice saying hello gave me a real shock.
This lasted how long I really do not know, as I was stunned, but certainly, the voice would have been speaking for fifteen to thirty seconds or more.
Emailing a daughter about it made me feel a little foolish to say the least.
Computers are her life, so the next day she gave my computer a good going over to see if there were any faults that may have caused the voice.
The computer came up with a clean bill of health so no problem there.
Perhaps it was all mother's fault, an over active imagination, maybe problems with wires, passing traffic according to all sources, some of the reasons for Electronic Voice Phenomenon.
None of these reasons can explain or throw doubt on this happening.
Since then I have read widely on this subject and yet have not come to any conclusions as to the reality of this phenomenon.
I know what I heard and there was absolutely no reason for this voice.
To this day, it has not happened again and probably never will.
Is it a spirit world, or are the bereaved especially sensitive to these things? People can laugh but strange occurrences do happen and nobody can explain the reasons.
